About the name
PyxiSUMO joins sumo with Pyxis, the constellation of the mariner's compass.
Lacaille drew Pyxis into the southern sky in 1751–52, modelled on the magnetic compass sailors steered by. It was never part of the old ship Argo Navis, though it sits beside the sky Lacaille divided into Carina, Puppis and Vela. Ranked 65th of the 88 constellations by area, and faint throughout, it is one you have to know how to find.
A banzuke, too, gathers scattered results onto a single sheet. The name is a wish — to be the compass that points the way between them.
